Tongits is not just a card game in the Philippines — it's a tradition. From Sunday afternoons in Quezon City to late-night sessions in Cebu and Davao, Tongits is the game Filipinos grow up with. Now at escala88, you can play Tongits Go online any time, on any device, against real players, with real money prizes and instant GCash payouts.
Tongits (sometimes spelled "Tong-its") is a three-player rummy-style card game that originated in the Ilocos region of the Philippines and became one of the most widely played card games in the country. It uses a standard 52-card deck and combines elements of draw-and-discard strategy with hand-building — not unlike gin rummy, but with its own distinct Filipino flavor and rules.
Tongits Go is the digital, real-money version of this classic game. At escala88, the Tongits Go platform lets you join live tables with Filipino players from Manila, Cebu, Makati, Davao, and all over the archipelago. The rules stay true to the game you know, while the online format adds speed, convenience, and the chance to win real Philippine Pesos from your smartphone.
Whether you're a longtime Tongits veteran or just learning the game, escala88's Tongits Go tables are open 24 hours a day, with multiple stake levels to suit beginners and high-rollers alike.
Classic Tongits is played with exactly 3 players — just like the version you grew up with.
No special deck needed. Standard international playing cards used across all tables.
All bets and winnings are in Philippine Pesos. No currency conversion confusion.
Smooth gameplay on Android and iOS. Play on commute, during break, or at home.
A quick primer — from dealing the cards to calling Tongits
The dealer receives 13 cards. The other two players receive 12 cards each. The remaining cards form the draw pile in the center of the table.
On your turn, draw from the pile or pick up the top discard. Then discard one card to reduce your hand. The goal is to form valid card sets (melds) and reduce your hand's total point value.
Lay down valid sets — three or more cards of the same rank (e.g., three Kings) or three or more consecutive cards of the same suit (e.g., 7-8-9 of hearts). You can also add cards to existing melds on the table (sapaw).
If you've melded all your cards, declare Tongits — an instant win. Alternatively, any player can call a "fight" (challenge) when another player draws. The player with the lowest unmelded card points wins the fight.
If the draw pile is exhausted before anyone calls Tongits, the game ends. All players reveal their hands and the player with the fewest unmelded card points wins the pot.
The winner collects the pot. At escala88, winnings in PHP are credited to your account instantly. Withdraw via GCash or Maya in minutes.
| Card | Point Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ace (A) | 1 point | Lowest value card — good to have in unmelded hand |
| 2 – 9 | Face value (2–9 pts) | Standard pip cards |
| 10, J, Q, K | 10 points each | High-value cards — try to meld these early to reduce hand count |
The fewer total points in your unmelded cards when the game ends, the better your position. Face cards (10, J, Q, K) are the most dangerous to hold unmelded — they cost you 10 points each.
From casual fun to competitive real-money play — improve your game
Jacks, Queens, Kings, and Tens each carry 10 points — the heaviest deadwood in your hand. If you can form a meld with them quickly, do it. Holding three unmelded Kings when someone calls a fight costs you 30 points immediately.
In Tongits Go at escala88, the discard history is visible. If an opponent keeps throwing low cards, their hand is already loaded with melds. A low-card discard pattern is a warning sign — they may be close to calling Tongits.
Picking up a discarded card gives your opponents information about what you're building. Only pick up if the card directly completes or extends an existing meld. Otherwise, draw blind from the pile.
Sapaw means adding cards to your opponents' or your own existing melds on the table. This is a powerful way to shed high-point deadwood cards without needing to form a complete new meld yourself.
Calling a fight (challenge) when your opponent draws is only worthwhile if you're confident your unmelded total is lower than theirs. Premature fights at the wrong time can hand the win to a third player with a lighter hand.
Aces are only worth 1 point. If you can't meld your Ace, it's almost harmless deadwood. A lone Ten, Jack, Queen, or King with no meld prospect should be discarded as soon as possible to keep your hand count low.
